
Two brigades for Derbyshire which are the County Borough of Derby Fire Brigade and the Derbyshire Fire Service were created by the Fire Service Act 1947. However, in 1974, there was a reorganization of the local government which caused to the creation of Derbyshire Fire Service. Rescue was only added to the name in the early 1990s to mirror the responsibilities of the service.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service is the fire authority for the county of Derbyshire, England.
The service has currently 31 operational fire stations, composing of 9 stations crewed 24 hours, 3 stations crewed only at daytime, and 19 stations crewed by retained firefighters who live nearby and can go to the station within 5 minutes the call is received.
In addition, the service has plenty of latest and operational fire equipments. The station at Buxton has 3 aerial appliances, 3 emergency/BA tenders, 3 foam/water carriers, and 1 high-volume pump. Chesterfield has 3 aerial appliances and 3 emergency/BA tenders while Matlock has 1 Unimog multi-terrain vehicle and 1 rope rescue unit. Areas of Ilkeston has 3 foam/water carriers; in Ripley there is 1 command unit; 1 incident response unit and 1 environmental unit in Alfreton.
