Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service

2011 06 14 1121 Leicestershire Fire and Rescue ServiceThe Fire Services Act 1947 created both Leicestershire and Rutland Fire Brigade and City of Leicester Fire Brigade. But in 1974, the three distinct fire brigades were joined together forming the present fire service. The service is a joint administration of the three areas. Hence, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service covering Leicestershire, Rutland and the unitary authority of Leicester. The three areas cover 2, 552.93 kilometers square and cater 953,100 population.

Presently, there are 20 operational fire stations scattered across the areas. The stations are at  Ashby de la Zouch, Billesdon, Coalsville, Hinckley, Kibworth, Leicester Central, Leicester East, Leicester South, Leicester West, Loughborough, Lutterworth, Market Bosworth, Market Harborough, Melton Mowbray, Moira, Oakham, Shepshed, Syston, Uppingham, and at Wigston.  The headquarters is located at Glenfield and it is administered by Chief Fire Officer Dave Webb.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service together with the East Midlands Ambulance Service provide emergency medical cover to Billesdon which has been identified as the area in need most of ambulance assistance. The team’s objective is to execute first-aid while waiting for the arrival of either the Rapid Response Vehicle or an ambulance.
