The service was created when Merseyside came to being in 1974. It was then at the hands of Merseyside County Council but after 1986, it was transferred into the care of Merseyside Fire and Civil Defense Authority which composes the 5 Merseyside boroughs.
The service has an area of 645 kilometers square and a population of 1.4 million. It has 26 community fire stations and has 1,800 employees. All stations have 42 pumping appliances, 4 Combined Platform Ladders, 1 Combined Pump Platform, and plenty of specialist vehicles. The headquarters is located in Bootle, Liverpool and is headed by Chief Fire Officer Anthony Mcguirk, Deputy Chief Fire Officer Bill Michael Hagen and the Assistant Chief Fire Officer Bill Evans.
Basically, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service is the statutory fire and rescue service of Merseyside located in the Northwest of England, Sefton, Knowsley, ST. Helens, Liverpool and Wirral.
