However, there is more to it than putting out fires and protecting people. A firefighter must have the characteristics of a true, brave and compassionate person. It’s not easy to be one since lives of many are in one’s hands. However, the feeling is very rewarding. The question is, what does it take to be a fireman?

In the UK, fire departments are very strict when it comes to the qualifications of being a fireman. It’s not all about the fire alarms, driving around town on a fire engine and using gigantic hoses to stop fire. Once they are qualified on the first stage, training begins. However, being a firefighter must start within the person. Is it really for them? The field of the job is not easy since it entails commitment, pressure, flexibility and a swift presence of mind.  A firefighter must also love what he is doing, patient to what he is handling and hasty on emergencies.
