Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is the statutory fire and rescue of Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin in West Midlands of England. It covers and approximate area of 3,487 kilometers square and has a population of 454,900.
The service has 23 fire stations scattered strategically around the county. The headquarters is located at Shrewsbury and is headed by Chief Fire Officer Paul Raymond. Presently, the service has 500 working staff which includes both full-time and retained firefighters. While the CFO is responsible for major executive duties including financial management, the remaining responsibilities are undertaken by the senior management team which is composed of the Deputy Chief Fire Officer headed by John Redmond who is responsible for Community Safety and Service Delivery; the Assistant Chief Fire Officer Louise McKenzie who is assigned to Human Resources, Training, Development and Chaplaincy; and Assistant Chief Fire Officer Steve Worrall who is responsible for Operations, Performance Review and Risk, Information and Communications Technology and Administration.
The service has 4 stations operating on a wholetime duty system which means that it is crewed 24 hours a day. The station are at Shrewsbury, Wellington, Telford Central, and at Tweedale which also operates on a retained duty system at the same time.
On the other hand, the remaining stations operate based on retained duty system which means that the firefighters live nearby the stations so they can quickly come over within 5 minutes after a call is received. The stations are at Oswestry, Clun, Ellesmere, Whitchurch, Prees, Markey Drayton, Hodnet, Wem, Baschurch, Newport, Minsterley, Much Wenlock, Bishop’s Castle, Church Stretton, Craven Arms, Ludlow, Cleobury Mortimer, Bridgnorth, Tweedale, Albrighton, Shrewsbury and Wellington.
