West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service

wmfs logo11 West Midlands Fire and Rescue ServiceThe service was formed when West Midlands was formed. But before its formation, there were several fire brigades in each county boroughs which are composed of Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Solihull, Walsall, Warley, West Bromwich and Wolverhampton. Thus, West Midlands Fire Service was a union of these fire brigades and some parts of Warwickshire Fire Brigade. It is the current second largest fire and rescue service in UK and is one of the best fire and rescue teams.

Thus, west Midlands Fire and Rescue Service is the statutory fire and rescue service of West Midlands, England. It covers an area of 902 kilometers square a total population of 2,609,500. It is responsible for the protection of the people from fires, prevention of fires, and in intervention and rescue operations.

Today, there are 39 fire stations in operation and are scattered all over the county. The main station is based in Birmingham and is administered by Chief Fire Officer Vij Randeniya. These stations are split into 8 command areas which are the North and South Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall, and Wolverhampton.

Furthermore, the 39 stations are all operating based on a wholetime duty system and they are in Aldridge, Aston, Bickenhill, Billesley, Bilston, Binley, Bloxwich, Bournbrook, Brierley Hill, Canley, Coventry, Cradley Heath, Dudley, Erdington, Fallings Park, Foleshill, Halesowen, Handsworth, Hay Mills, Highgate, Kings Norton, Ladywood, Northfield, Oldbury, Perry Barr, Sheldon, Smethwick, Solihull, Stourbridge, Sutton, Coldfield, Tettenhall, tipton, Walsall, Ward End, Wednesbury, West Bromwich, Willenhall, Wolverhampton, and in Woodgate.
